Are you struggling with what products to use for an everyday makeup look? You don’t want to look TOO made up but you also want to look beat without looking beat (YAS HUNTY!)? Well you’ve come to the right place. I’m no expert or anything but I’ve found what works for me and I want to share it with you. I also don’t wear makeup everyday by any means but I love getting all dolled up and I also love my simple makeup looks too. I’m going to show you the simple steps I use to get that “No Makeup, Makeup” look and the products I use!
Let’s get started!
I always do my brows first, for some unknown reason. It would probably be smarter for me to do brows after I do my foundation so I don’t get foundation in them but I don’t and I roll with it. For a simple makeup look I usually don’t fill in my brows with a brow pencil but instead I use my Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in Chocolate. This product is great to use if you just want a darker tint on your brows without all the extra work of shaping and what not. I usually love to do this right after I’ve had my eyebrows threaded because it’s the fastest way to make my brows look bold and crisp.
I talked about NYX’s Honey Dew Me Up in a recent post that you can find here. If you read that post, then you know that I recently found this primer and love it! It works really well and you only need a small amount to get great coverage. A primer is a must if you plan to wear any kind of foundation for your look so that it lasts longer throughout the day. I usually spray my face with my Mac Fix+ spray in addition to applying my primer, but we will talk about Fix+ soon.
There are many different types of foundations (powder, liquid, stick, etc.) that you can choose from and they are all up to your preferences and skin type of which ones will work best for you. Many foundations come in different formulas and finishes, such as dewy and matte. I lean more towards liquid matte foundations because I can get very oily throughout the day and liquid foundations hold to my skin better. My everyday foundation is Maybelline Fit Me in Coconut. At first, I wasn’t too keen on this foundation because I thought it made me look ashy but when I tried it again I realized that it has really great coverage and provides my face with the desired matte-ness I need. This foundation is more on the full coverage side for me so on a simple makeup day, I use just a little and spread it around my face very thinly.
Concealer is not a step that you HAVE to have in an everyday makeup look but it doesn’t hurt if you have dark circles peeking through your foundation or spots that you want a little extra coverage on. I use Maybelline Fit me Concealer in Café and it’s definitely one of the better drug store concealers. It blends out with a beauty blender so effortlessly and stays in place all day. I think this concealer doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, but that’s just me.
In a full beat face situation, after concealer I would “bake” and set my face with a setting powder but for the sake of time I usually skip this step with an everyday look.
Next up is our powder. Powder can be used on its own (without foundation) or with foundation as an extra buffer and to make your foundation long-lasting. I use Mac’s Mineralize Skin Finish in Dark Deep to dust away my setting powder, if used, and to set the rest of my face. This step is very important for me because this is what makes my skin flawless and matte looking. Mineralize Skin Finish is a great powder for light coverage and doesn’t make you look “cakey” at all.
Bronzing can be a good alternative to contouring your face. I usually bronze my face with the Cover Girl Queen Collection Bronzer in Ebony. This is a very dark bronzer and definitely more suitable for my darker completion ladies. It is buildable so it can quickly get dark and move into a red-ish contour, if you aren’t careful. I dust this product over my forehead and temples, down under my cheek bones, and under my jaw line for added warmth. Bronzing just brings life back to your face after the foundation and concealer can sometimes completely dull you out.
Blush serves somewhat of the same purpose that bronzer does. The red, or pink, tones in your skin are masked once foundation and concealer are applied so blush serves to bring back the color in your cheeks. My everyday blush of choice is Mac Blush in Raizin. This a warm brownish red color that isn’t too dark or too light for an everyday look. I’ve had this blush since I started wearing makeup about a year ago and it a MUST HAVE for me. Especially if your skin tone is dark, like mine, you’ll love this blush. It is very pigmented so be careful of going overboard.
On everyday makeup days, I don’t get too fancy with my eye makeup. Because of this, I usually use whatever blush I’m using as an eyeshadow. So most days I dip my eyeshadow brush into Raizin and dust it all over my eyelid. I think it creates a nice symmetry on my face, to be honest. I love the way my cheeks and eyes correlate (I don’t know, call me crazy?) and it satisfies my need to do something to my eyes.
I think mascara is really necessary for an everyday makeup look. I use mascara usually everyday, even if it’s a day that I’m just wearing my glasses. Mascara can really open eyes and create a more wide awake effect (even if you aren’t). My Ride or Die drug store mascara to use is the Maybelline Great Lash in Lots of Lashes (the smaller wand). This mascara is great for separating and lengthening your lashes, so f you don’t want much of any volume I would say go with this. I usually use this mascara in conjunction with any other mascara, using Great Lash first. Mascara that works well for volume and length is the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot mascara (Okay, I promise this post is not sponsored by Maybelline!). My cousin introduced me to this mascara and I am so happy she did because it works magic almost instantly! You do not need a lot of product to get your desired effect with this mascara, and let’s just say this might be my new Must Have!
This step is NOT necessary for an everyday look but if you don’t have the best real lashes or you just prefer to wear lashes or just want to switch it up for the day, I have a recommendation for you! My go-to lash is the Ardell Demi Wispies in 120. These lashes are my absolute favorite Drug Store lashes and are nice and fluffy but not too dramatic for everyday wear. They sell these lashes at most stores and they are practically accessible anywhere you go.
Lastly, I own a few setting sprays but I think the most versatile setting spray I have is Mac’s Fix+. Fix+ is the product everyone should have in their makeup collection (I’m serious). I use this spray for almost everything. I spray it on my face in the morning after I wash my face to provide moisture to my face before I apply makeup (I don’t put lotion my face after washing because it makes my face sweat and doesn’t mix well with my other face products). I spray Fix+ while doing my face periodically if I feel like I’m getting too dry or want my face to have extra stay power. I also spray Fix+ on my eyeshadow brushes when applying a very glittery shadow onto my lid. There is an infinite amounts of uses for Fix+ and you already know I’m obsessed! This is the product that I go through the most and don’t plan on giving up ever. Sometimes I use it with other setting sprays but it is fine to use on its own as well.
You are now fully made up and ready to go! These are just my suggestions on what an everyday make up look can consist of and the products that I use! Please comment below if you have a favorite product that you like to use so that I can try them out too!
